Web design tools that I use

I have been designing websites since 1996. I started writing code by hand, working out how it worked by dismantling other sites - in those days there weren't many other ways to learn.

I have used the same few tools for most of that time:

I used to use Homesite v1.2 for many years, which was freeware, back in 1996 when I started, but isn't free any more - the current version is now up to version 5.5 and you have to buy it (!). I occasionally use HTML kit. These days I do virtually all my work in Dreamweaver 8 (which is still old software, but it works, and I can't justify spending the hundreds to upgrade to the current version!).

Images are prepared using Paintshop Pro v6.00 (by JASC, who sold out to Corel. See Corel Paintshop Pro X2). If I need a transparent png I use Corel Paintshop Pro X2, but I hate the way it takes ages to launch the program, so I use version 6 otherwise, as it loads quickly and does almost all I need.

The stylesheets are written using Topstyle Lite v 3.10, or Dreamweaver, of course.

To ftp files to the server, I still occasionally use Filezilla v2.2.16 (now unavailable, since the launch of v3), otherwise Dreamweaver has fast uploading built in, which is more convenient.

Anything else you'd like to know - just , and I'll try to give you an answer.

Finally - if you need a website designed for a very reasonable fee - try me :-)
